poriPlain Poori is a traditional Pakistani recipe. Plain Poori is an unleavened deep fried bread. It is prepared with wheat flour or maida. A dough of flour rolled out in small circle or rolled out and cut out in small circles and deep fried in ghee or vegetable oil. While deep frying it puffs up like a round ball because moisture in the dough changes in to steam which expands in all directions and it is golden brown in colour.

Origin Of Plain Poori:

Plain Poori originated in the Punjab region Pakistan and India.

Recipe Of Plain Poori:

Preparation time 50-60 minutes
Serve 5-6 people

Ingredients:

Flour 250 gram
Ghee 1/2 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
White cumin roasted 1 tsp
Luke warm water to kneed
Ghee or oil for deep frying

Instructions For Cooking:

1. Seive flour add salt and cumin, rub in melted 1/2 cup ghee. Mix very lightly with soft hands till it resembles like bread crumbs.

2. Now slowly knead with luke warm water in to a smooth medium dough, now cover with a wet napkin and leave to rest for 1 hour.

3. Now make in to small balls, roll in to small small saucer size poori and deep fry till light golden, remove and put on wire rack.
serve hot with kheer or dhaba daal.

Variations In Plain Poori:

Plain Poori can be more variant if you add fillings of your own choice. You can add cumin in dough batter and also fill this poori with daal or corn to make it more delicious.

Uses Of Plain Poori:

Plain Poori can be served with Halwa, Korma, Chana masala, Daal, Potato based curries, Mixed vegetable and Kheer. Plain Poori is most commonly served at breakfast.
